Introduction

The change from a controlled to a more open economy has been occurring at a relatively rapid pace in China. Many of the state-owned enterprises are either undergoing a privatisation process or are becoming joint venture operations with western multinational enterprises. This has had an impact on the organisational culture of both the management and the individual employees, and the pace of change, which has been incremental, has been met with some resistance.
