Most people dream of wide-open calendars with zero obligations. In this world, their phone buzzes, signaling passive income deposits while they have nowhere to be and nothing to do—the day’s sole assignment is to show up for the hot stone massage at noon with Sasha. In other words: pure, unabashed freedom.

But there’s a problem: free time alone doesn’t equal freedom.

After weeks of this world, we feel useless. After one too many days of 3 p.m. cocktails, we crave clarity. After a week of hitting the spa, we’re ready not to have a stranger’s hands on our neck. With nothing to chase, no incentive or desire to bring to life—we feel like something is missing.

And we’re right.
