High availability 

AWS provides multiple availability zones. Each zone has its own data centers.  It is wise to deploy your critical applications across multiple availability zones and keep replicating the data regularly. This provides high availability for the application. For example, when servers in one availability zone have outages, the servers in the other availability zone should still be running and can provide failover to support the application.

You must ensure that you are prepared to handle a failover. Elastic IPs and availability zones are two key resources required for creating a stable failover setup.  Elastic IPs can be dynamically remapped to a different instance when needed and hence are very useful in the event of failovers.  ...
