The OpenStack Compute Service (NOVA) is the core component of OpenStack. It provides the ability to run virtual machines on OpenStack nodes by providing drivers that interact with the underlying virtualization mechanism. The Nova service is capable of interacting with various hypervisors such as KVM, VMware, XEN Server, and so on. By default, the KVM hypervisor is used. The libvirt driver (libvirtd) is used to interact with the KVM hypervisor.
