Db2 V11.1 BLU advances

Db2 Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) now supports column-organized tables. The following diagram shows a simple BLU MPP (DPF) topology:

Db2 Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) topology

With Db2 MPP, it is possible to deliver a true massively parallel columnar store. Data exchanges during distributed joins and aggregations are performed entirely in a native columnar format.

Core technologies added to Db2 BLU for MPP processing are as follows:

  • Column Vector Processing Engine is MPP aware
  • Partition communication uses optimized vector format
  • Common table dictionary keeps data compressed across network
  • Multi-core optimized ...
