Chapter 6. J2EE Web Applications and the Web Container

In Part I, “Introduction to WebSphere and Deployment,” we laid the groundwork for this book. We introduced you to the WebSphere Application Server platform and introduced architecture for build and deployment procedures. We begin Part II, “J2EE Deployment and Administration,” by focusing on J2EE web applications. This includes understanding the technologies that make up web applications. In addition, we will illustrate the structure of web modules. Then we illustrate the characteristics of the WebSphere Application Server (WAS) web container. Finally, we will use an exercise to illustrate automating the assembly and deployment of the Personal Trade System example application.
