In this chapter, we explored the various facets of JDBC and discussed some practical applications for its use. Resource references and resource scoping and how they apply to deploying applications were discussed. We used the wsadmin facility to configure a WAS variable, JDBC Provider, J2C authentication alias, and data source, and we tested the data source. Finally, we assembled and deployed a dynamic version of the Personal Trade System using build and deployment process.
In addition, in this chapter, we discussed the J2EE Java Connector Architecture (J2C) and how WAS resources, such as JDBC, make use of J2C. In the next chapter, we will explore the J2C in detail.
