2.6 Basic terms in photography
In order to present some basic definitions of optical properties of cameras
and lenses, we first need to introduce a very simple camera model. More details
on cameras will be given in the next chapter.
Figure 2.20 shows the simplest possible schematic of a camera. When the
shutter is open, light passes through the lens and reaches the sensor, where it
is recorded; images are inverted. Camera lenses are actually lens systems, that
we treat and think of as a single lens with a given focal distance, but which in
