When all possible controls are fi nally in place, the danger of self-
damage is at a low level, but that is forcedly true for the effi ciency
of immune defences also, and a low tide in defence effi ciency
must have followed (unfortunately, nothing is known about the
defences of the dinosaurs. If this was known, they could make
a nice example in either case: for being too controlled, and thus
having become extinct for insuffi cient defence, or for being not
suffi ciently controlled, and aggressive against themselves).
