Many of the unsuccessful AST attempts and myths related to AST implementations, plus lack of sufficient AST knowledge, lead to the question “Why should I automate?” Chapter 4 exposes and clarifies some of the myths surrounding AST and the pitfalls to avoid, but here we will first focus on answering the question “Why automate?”
We accomplish that by describing some of the key practices in software testing and the many areas that lend themselves to AST. The purpose of our discussion here is to educate the reader about software testing key practices in the context of “why AST.”
