Congestion avoidance techniques monitor network traffic loads in an effort to anticipate and avoid congestion at common network bottlenecks. Congestion avoidance is achieved through packet dropping. The congestion avoidance methods are tail drop, Random Early Detection (RED), and Weighted Random Early Detection (WRED).
