Configuring IP addresses

In this section, we will discuss how to configure an IP address on an interface. Recall from the previous chapter that all configurations are done in the configuration mode of the Cisco IOS. We will follow the following steps to enter into the configuration mode of the IOS.

On normal boot or login into the router, the prompt of the router is the name of the router, also called hostname (which we set to TESTROUTER in the following figure) followed by a > sign.
