Firewalls

We have described firewalls at length in Chapter 7, Understanding and Configuring Data Center Technologies. The firewalls act as the first line of defense of the organization and block any traffic that is not explicitly allowed by the security policies. The firewalls also provide a lot of inbuilt security rules that are used to analyze the incoming traffic and block any malicious traffic or any traffic that is not allowed as per the organization's security policies. Firewalls generally work at layer 3 and layer 4 of the OSI stack and can block all traffic based on these policies.
