Briefing

As indicated in the previous section, the briefing and reviewing agendas are a means of putting into practice the Continuous Cycle skill learning process (see Figure 26.1).

Both the agendas and the process can be demonstrated very clearly in the case of the interpersonal competencies. As we saw in earlier sections, the interpersonal competency cluster is second in importance only to results-orientation. You may recall also (Section 23) that in relating to others, managers are typically disposed to the use of the ‘tell’ style. The latter involves giving a lot of information and telling people what to do. This section will focus on a briefing and we shall deal with reviewing in the next section.
