Use in regions experiencing a broad range of temperatures requires tests
that cycle from high to low temperature to repeatedly stretch and shrink
the material to see if the materials degrade.
Testing for operation in high temperature and humidity checks the
effects of moisture in hot, humid regions. Moisture reacting with con-
taminants causes corrosion in many materials, resulting in failed circuits.
Alternatively, it can generate new microstructures, like dendrites, that can
cause short circuits. Elevated temperature promotes this reaction, and
voltage determines the direction of microstructure migration.
