67Chapter four: Current issues in reliability technology
First, let’s consider what happens at each product development stage.
The concept development (CD) for the target product is derived from the
survey data of customers’ needs and of the competitive products on the
market and is then reviewed (DR#1: rst design review). The product is
then designed (PD) according to these concepts and reviewed (DR#2). Its
prototype, called the desk pilot product (DPP), is made and checked in terms
of performance and reliability (DR#3). Then pilot products, called line pilot
products (LPPs), are made on production lines similar to the actual lines,
with components made by real dies or molds, and reviewed for manu-
facturing problems and performance issues ...
