In order to make products highly reliable, three kinds of specialists must
work together organically: the product developer, the reliability engineer,
and the failure analyst. The task of the product developer, sometimes
called the “know how” specialist, is to improve a product’s performance
and decrease its cost. The reliability engineer is the failure mechanism
specialist who identies reliability issues lying dormant in the product.
