Growing up, Hope belonged to a fundamentalist Reformed Baptist church in small-town Georgia. “It felt just like a family. Everyone loved each other so warmly, and the sense of belonging was intense. My family was always one of the first there on Sunday and last to leave. It’s very comforting, as long as you stay on the inside.” Her parents taught Sunday school and her father was a deacon.
David grew up in a Baptist family one county over, but under very different conditions.
