It is believed that commerce originated thousands of years ago because people realized there was a need to sell or exchange their products. They, therefore, left their homes and travelled in search of custom, sometimes great distances over land and water, at great risk to their lives and their goods. The success of these people depended on their ability to overcome various risks that came their way and external constraints they were confronted with.
