Many a writer on Indian Economic History tends to forget the vast potentialities offered by internal trade in India, and nobody tries to spotlight its place in the economic development of the country. The alien British-ruled government in the past, either ignored its presence in order to consolidate the position of England’s manufacturers in the Indian market, or tried its very best to project a myth that foreign trade alone was the summum bonum of all trading activities.
