Industrial networks

Abstract

Networking is the critical component of the process control system and various technologies have evolved in the networks area and hence their application in the industrial automation. The chapter provides a basic overview of the communication networks for the industrial automation users and subsequently the concept of design and implementation. The general open-system interconnection concepts of the networks with each of the layers functional description and its relevance in Ethernet or any other industrial systems such as distributed control systems were discussed.
