The previous two chapters explored some of the strategies for managing large amounts of data available to those with access to databases and the processing power to put them to use. This chapter examines some alternative strategies for negotiating the contemporary information landscape for those without such access. In particular, it focuses upon the resurgent interest in body language analysis and various preconscious strategies for decision-making. As in the case of data mining and predictive analytics, it argues that these strategies take shape against the background of the fate of symbolic efficiency and strategies for sidestepping the vagaries of discursive representation. ...
