IA Research and Evaluation

Information architecture research and evaluation provides the foundation for creating user-centered information spaces. Research and evaluation go together; we start learning through research about users’ goals and needs, design and build in an attempt to meet those needs, and then evaluate to see how well what we built performs. Research helps to build the right thing—the features and tools that users want, and evaluation helps make sure we build the thing right—that the thing performs as intended (Hanson, 2013), where the “thing” is an information system.
