Introduction to Information Quality
in Product Development
Every organization provides products

or services to its Customers or constituents,
whether a corporation, a not-for-profit organization or a government agency. This
chapter addresses Information Quality in the Product Development Value Circle,
“Product-Idea-to-Product-Retire.” A critical success factor for organizations is
to ensure they develop products and services that meet or exceed Customer
expectations. This chapter addresses the first part of the Supply Chain, that is
the Conception of product ideas, to discovery of Customer Requirements, to
the Engineering, Design, and Development of the processes that manufacture
or deliver the products and services.
In Chapter 11 we examine the operational Supply Chain Management Value
Circle, “Forecast-to-Satisfied-Customer,” which includes Forecasting Demand,
Customer-Order Management, Production Scheduling, Order Fulfillment,
Shipping, In-Use Servicing, and Product Disposition.
