INACCURATE INVENTORY
ROOT CAUSES
PROCESS IMPROVEMENT CONSIDERATIONS
14. Mgt Environment: Lack
of appropriate training in
inventory management
1. Review training materials and update and enhance
them as necessary. Involve training develop-
ment staff and subject experts in development or
enhancement of training.
2. After improving the training material, test its effec-
tiveness by measuring the performance of those
who take it and a control group of those who have
not taken the training.
15. Mgt Environment: No
accountability in manage-
ment for inventory counts
1. Why? Information is perceived as a by-Product
and not a valued Product and resource of the
enterprise. Ultimately, you will need to implement
accountability for every manager (first) in their
job descriptions. Then, with training and providing
the resources necessary to perform Information
work effectively, accountability can be written into
Information Producers and Knowledge Workers’
accountabilities.
2. In the short term, you can develop Stewardship
contracts between Information Producer managers
and their downstream Information Consumer man-
agers. Accompanying these contracts and account-
ability, every Stakeholder must have training in IQ
principles, processes, and techniques for improving
and error-proofing processes.
