Ensure your measurement area has a controlled environment that is con- n
sistent across all measurements made. This includes controlled tempera-
ture and humidity.
Standardize a measurement procedure that at least adheres to the guidelines n
published in the GDSN Package Measurement Rules for consistency,

be more rigorous depending on your organization’s Requirements.
Calibrate the measurement equipment or device to ensure it is accurate to n
the appropriate precision. Use the same measurement equipment or device to
ensure consistency of measurement.

Step 1. Establish the natural base of the package.
Step 2. Establish standard measurement points for the package.
Step 3. Place the package with the base on a smooth surface in a specific location.
Use a jig to control the placement to ensure uniformity in measurement.
Step 4. Measure the width of the package and record the results. If measure-
ments are recorded manually, double-check them.
Step 5. Measure the length (depth) and height and record the results. If mea-
surements are recorded manually, double-check them.
Step 6. Weigh the package on a calibrated weigh scale and record its gross
weight. If the weight is recorded manually, double-check the figure and
precision.
