TIQM P1: Assess Information Product
Specifications and Architecture Quality
The previous chapter described the cultural transformation and roadmap for
implementing an Information Quality culture and environment. This is an
ongoing and continuous journey to evermore increasing the processes of infor-
mation development and information production. TIQM P1 is the first discrete
process. P1 measures the quality of Information Product Specifications (data
definition, valid values, and business rule specifications) data and the quality
of Information Models representing the Enterprise Information Requirements
and physical Database Design quality. Figure 4-1 illustrates this process in the
context of TIQM in general.
TIQM P1 describes how to measure the Quality of Information Product
Specifications (IPS). IPS includes data names and definitions; business rule
specifications, also called validity rules or edit and validation rules; the set
of valid values or range of values; Information Content format structure; and
other characteristics that enable Business Professionals to understand the
meaning of the Information they work with and to communicate clearly with
each other across organizational boundaries. It also includes how to measure
