For the past four decades, database systems have occupied the most strategic position inside the software environment of organizations. Because the main role of a database system is to provide permanent storage for all information that is essential to a business, it is perfectly comprehensible that it has held such a strategic position. Nowadays, even with the growing importance of the Internet, this has not changed. After all, even if database systems actually are the most efficient way for storing information, the web has proved to be the most efficient way for sharing it on a wide scale.
