What Is a Distribution List?
A distribution list (DL) is a convenient way to group users and/or contacts together so that the list can be referenced as a single entity. For example, the Exchange Web Service team has distribution lists for its development, test, and triage teams. A given contact can reside in zero, one, or more distribution lists. These groupings can exist within Active Directory as distribution lists, security groups, or the Exchange specific "dynamic" distribution lists, where membership is evaluated dynamically based on certain attributes.[105] In addition, the Exchange Store also surfaces its own concept of a distribution list, which is known as a private distribution list.
