Working with Time Zones

In Chapter 8, we presented the rules that apply to a newly created calendar item in order to convert all date/time strings without UTC offsets to UTC. We stated that a time zone bias is used to do this conversion, and that this bias can come from one of two places:

  1. If the request contains an explicit time zone definition via a MeetingTimeZone element, then all date/time strings without UTC offsets are converted using the bias from the MeetingTimeZone.

  2. If no MeetingTimeZone element is included, the bias from the current time zone of the Exchange Client Access Server will be used.[169]

We also gave you the following equation to explain how the conversion takes place:

UTC = local time + bias
