MAPI Entry Ids

Many current MAPI-based applications may be migrated to Exchange Web Services. MAPI identifies items and folders in a mailbox using an entry id (PR_ENTRYID). However, an entry id is not the same thing as an Exchange Web Services ItemId (or FolderId for that matter). So, what if you have an existing MAPI application that uses entry id values in some places and you want to supply these entry id values to Exchange Web Services? This could occur in a couple of cases.

  • You may have a local database of items that you would like to access, but the only identifier that you have is the entry id because the local database was populated using a legacy application.

  • You may be upgrading a legacy application piece-by-piece and have some legacy components ...
