Cleaning Up the Image Background

The background is a real cacophony and distracts from the main subject. We will eliminate the distractions from it. At the same time, we will perform some hairdressing to clear away all the stray hair:

Choose the Magnetic Lasso tool from the toolbox, and follow the edge of the hair on the head, but not the chunky strands that are sticking out around the model's head. Start from the middle upper-left side of the head hovering the tool (don't drag the Magnetic Lasso tool) to the right toward the shoulder, down and following the frame, and then up to the left shoulder, back to your starting point (see Figure 16.7).
