Effects

Another area where Sound Forge truly shines is in the special audio effects department. There are over 40 effects and processes built-in, several automatable. Also, the program supports third-party DirectX plug-ins for even more creative power.

Effects divide into several categories.

  • Tonal-based effects (EQ, Smooth/enhance) work on the frequency content of the audio.

  • Time-based effects (reverb, delay) give a sense of space, such as the sound of a room, or add discreet repeats or echoes to the sound.

  • Modulation-based effects (amplitude, flange, chorus, phase, wah) are time-based effects that include modulation or resonance settings that change the effect over time.
