Finishing Secrets

What makes for good audio? Refer to this list as you work on your projects:

  • Make sure you can understand what people say whether for sung vocals or spoken word. Listeners want to hear and comprehend other people. Clarity it vital. Voice rules! All other sounds are secondary.

  • Paint a picture in the listener’s mind’s eye through appropriate sound choices.

  • Fix obvious mistakes or mask them through other means.

  • Keep distracting noise to a minimum or eliminate it altogether.

  • Keep your volume level consistent.

  • If possible, put your personal stamp or “sound” on your work. Sometimes, though, you just need to keep it real (because that’s what a client wants).
