Does reading the newspaper these days hurt your arms – because you have to hold it at arms’ length to read it? Do you only like reading where there’s a bright light available?
This is regarded as part of the eyes’ normal ageing process and is known as presbyopia. Normal, healthy, young eyes have a wide range of focus from the far distance to a few centimetres. In a young eye, the lens is very flexible.
