26.1. Introduction

The measurement and control of the moisture content of gases, liquids, and solids is an integral part of many industries. Numerous techniques exist, none being universally applicable, and the instrument technologist must be able to choose the appropriate measurement technique for the application. It is particularly important to measure moisture because of its presence in the atmosphere, but it is awkward because it is a condensable vapor that will combine with many substances by either physical adsorption or chemical reaction.
