This chapter presents the 582 MWe lignite-based Kemper County Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plant, as a case study of the first commercial application of the air-blown Transport Integrated Gasification (TRIG) technology. The Kemper County IGCC plant is a lignite-fueled 2-on-1 IGCC facility incorporating the air-blown TRIG technology jointly developed by the Southern Company; KBR; and the US Department of Energy (DOE) at the Power Systems Development Facility (PSDF) in Wilsonville, Alabama.
