4Hydrogen as a Fuel Cell

Abstract
Hydrogen seems to be the universe’s more essential and significant element. It is constantly paired with something else. Although hydrogen has a lot of energy, an engine to run on it produces nearly rejection pollutants. Since the 1970s, NASA has used liquid hydrogen to launch into orbit the space shuttle as well as other rockets. Hydrogen has gained popularity in recent years, widely used as a source of energy, particularly in fuel cells. Fuel cells are devices that made things simpler to capture hydrogen and also turn it into useable energy. Fuel cells surprisingly found their way into a broader range of applications, including backup power, power for remote places, and distributed power generation, as well as electricity cogeneration. As in context, hydrogen is likely to take part in a big role shortly in providing a clean, low-cost, and environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels. The importance of hydrogen in various types of fuel cells, as well as the operating principle, advantages and disadvantages will be discussed in this chapter.
