CHAPTER 5 Giving Your Macs Safe Access to the Internet
Unless you can lock your Mac users in a lead-lined room and keep them firmly cordoned off from the outside world, you’ll almost certainly need to give your network’s Macs access to the Internet, just as you provide it to your network’s PCs.
You can give the Macs Internet access in exactly the same way as PCs. In fact, you may already have given the Macs access to the Internet simply by connecting them to your network—so your starting point may not be providing connectivity so much as limiting it. You can do this by directing the Macs to use your network’s proxy server, which can both filter out content you want to block and cache data that many users will want to access.
