Abstract
Emerging technologies like IoT and Big data connect things, people, application, and data through the internet. In terms of capability in handling more than one smart device simultaneously, research-studies show that the number of mobile devices will exceed the number of people i.e. (7.6 billion on earth). Predictions also made by researcher state that 50 billion things will be connected to the internet by 2020. These devices will generate raw data that need to processed more accurately and in real time. So there is need of such platform which handles this task more accurately, and cloud computing paradigm is utilized to handle this type of real time task. Studies have proven that cloud computing fails in giving the performance throughput in terms of bandwidth, latency, data transfer speed, etc. These measures are required by emerging technologies like IoT and Big data to give results accurately in real time. So to gear this there is a layer added between cloud and devices which is nothing but fog or edge computing which handles the massive traffic generated by connected devices in IoT. This study further extends the concepts of utilization of Fog in IoT-based smart enterprise, smart manufacturing factory and smart healthcare systems.
