Neural-Network-Based AGC Design

Recent achievements on artificial neural networks (ANNs) promote great interest principally due to their capability to learn to approximate well any arbitrary nonlinear functions, and their ability for use in parallel processing and multivariable systems. The capabilities of such networks could be properly used in the design of adaptive control systems. In this chapter, following an introduction of ANN application in control systems, an approach based on artificial flexible neural networks (FNNs) is proposed for the design of an AGC system for multiarea power systems in deregulated environments.
