Chapter 6

History is rarely made by the well behaved

Successful intelligent disobedience often requires nonstandard behavior – in other words, acts that don’t fall into the “well behaved” category. This chapter examines different forms that intelligent disobedience can take, such as: bending rules, breaking rules, or inventing rules to suit a given situation; or challenging the decisions of individuals, a group, or external entities. These actions may be visible to many, a few, or only the person taking action. The examples in this chapter are not actions executed by people being well behaved or blending in with the average manager or employee.
