The two actions markedly differ from the other bodily movements the visi-
tors produce in front of the piece. They foreshadow a shift in orientation
away from the large painting and towards the sculpture to its right. Paul
moves his right foot backwards (transcript 1a, l. 8) and then turns his head
from the painting to the sculpture on the right (transcript 1a, l. 5). His slight
shift in orientation is the second action in the sequence. It arises in light of
Mary’s first action, who a moment earlier carefully shoves her left foot for-
