ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Barbara Mirel is a visiting associate professor and research investigator in the School of Information at the University of Michigan. She teaches information visualization and continues her research in projects related to complex problem solving. She has co-directed a joint academic degree program in Computer Science and Liberal Arts and has been a senior manager of human factors at a data visualization software company, a Member of the Technical Staff at Lucent Technologies, and Director of User Experience at Scient Corp. With teammates, she holds a patent for Visual Discovery design.
