These days, online information is so good and readily accessible that it is no longer necessary to define or introduce basic terms or concepts in a text book. The reader should refer to such sources whenever new or unfamiliar terms are used, such as simple harmonic motion, resonance frequency, the Grotthuss Mechanism, the Vroman effect, and von Schröder's Paradox.
