WHY DO I NEED TO DO ANYTHING SPECIAL?

Routers and gateways sold to consumers, schools, and businesses tend to be small, specialized devices. These devices are, at their core, little computers, with many of the input/output capabilities, graphical interfaces, and software found on traditional desktop and laptop computers stripped away, leaving only the basic functionality needed to connect one network to another. Such little computers can consume very little power and need little in the way of fast processors, memory, storage, graphics subsystems, or interfaces that come standard on the average computer.
