Introduction
This chapter describes functions common to most network-management architectures and protocols. It also presents the five conceptual areas of management as defined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Subsequent chapters in Part VIII, “Network Management,” address specific network management technologies, protocols, and platforms in more detail.
