Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) is an authentication protocol that was defined to support multiple authentication mechanisms. Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) connections typically negotiate the authentication protocol during the connection's Link Control Protocol (LCP) phase. This requires PPP to support the authentication method being used.
