Using Tests

There are numerous tests available that can be used to estimate a candidate’s ability – either their level of intelligence or a specific technical skill. Panel interviews and role playing are also popular methods of testing the skills of a candidate.

Only use tests that have been devised by a reputable source.

Points to remember

  • Tests should not replace face-to-face interviews, but rather they should augment them.

  • Personality tests produce a profile of an individual’s main characteristics, but they do not tell you whether the candidate is going to be good at the job.
