Chapter 9

Massing

Three-dimensional modeling tools have many uses within a building project. Two types of modeling tools are available in Autodesk Revit Architecture. The solid modeling tools are covered in Chapter 7, “Introduction to Families,” and this chapter concentrates on the tools used to create conceptual building models for design analysis and spatial planning. The specific need and family type chosen will determine which set of tools is available for use.

This chapter covers the following topics:

  • Understanding Mass Objects
  • Understanding references and work planes
  • Creating mass forms
  • Editing forms
  • Employing loadable mass families
  • Using face-based modeling
  • Creating mass families from imported geometry
